CROWDFUNDING
As I mentioned earlier, nothing will make your crowd disappear faster than trying to sell them something or hitting them up for money. Don’t do it. Your social network is not a bank.
There is a crowd out there, however, that will support you not only in making smart financial decisions, but also in raising funds. One of the most exiting recent developments in the area of Mindsharing is called crowdfunding. Kickstarter (www.kick starter.com) and Indiegogo (www.indiegogo.com) are two of the leading crowdfunding platforms. These platforms (and there are many more) enable a new kind of funding. Anyone can publish a project or present a dream and ask for funds from a big crowd. Do you dream of making a movie or writing a novel? Present your dream to the crowd and see who wants to support you monetarily in its pursuit. There are even crowdfunded babies—cases where parents raised money for fertility treatments or adoption costs. Having a family is a dream for many, and crowdfunding helps make that dream, and so many other dreams, possible.
Mindsharing has the potential to help you spend your money more wisely, guard it more carefully, invest it more successfully, and raise it more expediently. Money may not be the answer to all our problems, but sometimes we get by with a little help from our friends.
