Reversi Reframe: Tips

1. Start with a limitation or an obstacle. Write it on the front of a three-by-five index card. Next, write the opposite—whether you believe it or not—on the back of the card. Let the statement you wrote opposing your limitations provoke you. What if this premise were true?

2. Enlist help. Our negative and limiting beliefs can be so deeply rooted that it sometimes takes another person to show us our options.

3. Make Reversi part of your routine. As the White Queen tells Alice, “I daresay you haven’t had much practice. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

4. In the spirit of micro-resilience, do a Reversi quickly whenever you need it during the day. Bonnie, for example, may notice that she feels resistance before giving a speech. An internal voice says things like, “I’m not ready. I don’t want to go out there and face this difficult audience.” Backstage she’ll quickly say the opposite to herself, e.g., “I can’t wait to be onstage!” It helps immediately. Flip the script in your head, and you push your emotions in a new direction.
