Another Notch on the Bedpost

Jason stretched, yawned, and gazed sleepily up at the smiling face.

“Coffee,” Ethan said, holding out a steaming mug. He smelled of soap and his hair was damp, Jason noted.

“Thanks” he smiled, sitting up to take the coffee and sipping the strong brew.

“The lads are due any time,” he told him, and as if on cue, even as he spoke, they heard engines in the driveway. Ethan ruffled Jason’s sleep-tousled hair, and hurried downstairs to greet his small crew.

Jason downed his coffee quickly, gathered up his belongings, then hurried out of the building, giving a shy nod and smile to a tall ginger-bearded guy in a hard hat he passed on the stairs. He put his belongings in the caravan, took a shower, and changed into clean jeans and jumper. Then he went to find Ethan. He found his new lover near the skips, talking to another muscled giant holding a sledgehammer, discussing something to do with supporting walls. Jason didn’t say anything so as not to interrupt the conversation but he did quickly stand on tip-toe to kiss Ethan on the cheek and slipped his slim long-fingered hand into the broad callused one.

Ethan squeezed his hand.

“Jason, this is Tom, who’s about to start knocking down walls,” he introduced him.

Jason gave the man a smile and a nod. “Is there any way I can help or shall I just stay out of the way?” Jason asked.

Ethan leaned down and kissed his hair, which smelled of citrus. “You could make the guys mugs of coffee. There’s everything you need in the caravan,” he told him. “If you’re going to stay on-site I need you to put on a hard hat and mask, please. They’re in the back of the Ford.”

Jason went to the metallic red Ford Ranger 4x4 and easily spotted the box of hard hats, they were the same bright buttercup yellow as the skips for high visibility. He soon found the box of disposable white dust masks too and put one on. He chuckled when he caught sight of his reflection in a wing mirror. He thought the work crew all looked pretty hunky and sexy, bare-chested and sweaty, wearing hard hats and masks and wielding tools, but reckoned he just looked plain daft! Thus dressed, he went and made six mugs of coffee and set them on a plastic tray. He made them all black and put a carton of milk and a bag of sugar on the tray too with some teaspoons. He carried the tray outside and set in on the bonnet of the Ford. Then he decided to help with the task of throwing stuff into the skips. A large pile of old wood, broken tiles, rolls of linoleum and other various debris was building up on the driveway. He did the best he could but while he was far from being a weakling he was no laborer either and he was soon exhausted and had sore hands because he hadn’t thought to put gloves on and Ethan had been too busy to notice that he hadn’t.
