Entrainment (getting into the desired states yourself to influence the unconscious processes of the other person)
Entrainment is the process that occurs when two or more oscillating systems (e.g. any rhythmic, patterned or pulsing energy wave such as your heartbeat, brainwave frequencies, etc.) influence each other and become synchronized over time. Applying the process of entrainment as a NIE means that to start with, you should ensure you’re in a coherent state yourself before attempting to guide someone else into balance and coherence. As described in the previous chapter, the electric field of the heart extends out into the space around you and there’s evidence it can entrain another person’s heart into the same levels of coherence. Your unconscious non-verbal behaviors also send strong signals about the mind-body state you’re in. When your sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are in balance, you send clear signals, picked up by mirror neurons in the other person’s brain. So make sure you’re experiencing all the states in your three brains that you want to entrain into the person you are working with.
In addition, make sure you use appropriately congruent voice tones and gestures with the messages you’re sending. If you are talking to the person and guiding them into heart-felt states of compassion, talk in a peaceful and compassionate tone of voice. Use gestures that are open, even and flowingly point to the region of their heart. The same applies when facilitating states or experiences in a person’s brains or guiding messages and movement between their brains. Make sure all your non-verbal messages are congruent with the content you’re communicating. Ensure your communication processes match your content; it’s crucial for gaining rapport, congruence and alignment.
