Meanwhile, CANG8 held its antiwar rally under a blistering sun in Grant Park. Afterward thousands of protesters, some in playful outfits, marched south on Michigan Avenue to the intersection with Cermak Avenue, a few blocks from the McCormick Place convention center. A group of about forty military veterans in fatigues and formal dress led the procession, encircled by a yellow ribbon. When they got to Michigan and Cermak, they threw down their military medals in a statement against the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. They were followed by thousands of protesters from around the country, including nuns, black-clad anarchists, and prominent community leaders like the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
