4.1.2.3 Apathy

Negative symptoms also occur in several DSM-5 neurocognitive disorders and are commonly referred as apathy in this context. The Apathy Evaluation Scale is commonly used to evaluate neurological disorders such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke but also apathy in schizophrenia. This rating scale highlighted the high prevalence of apathy in the neurological diseases (Table 4.2) (Foussias, Agid, Fervaha, et al. 2014).
