Chapter Nine

Trey bashed at his word count, trying to hit his goal before the clock hit five. It was his weekend to deal with the date and that had been stressful, finding a place. He’d wasted hours researching it and now he was sweating getting his work done.

Brian knocked at his office door. “Is there anything else you need me to do before I go for the weekend, boss?”

“No.” Go away. He had five hundred words left.

“Okay, so you’re good with me leaving?”

“Go away, Brian. Shut the office door. Working.”

“Ah. Got it.”

He thought that maybe Brian was chuckling, but he ignored it and kept working.

He put his head down and typed hard, fingers banging on the keyboard. He wasn’t even sure he was writing words that made sense. He just needed to get his word count in, though, before—

His thought was interrupted by his doorbell ringing, Dodger barking like mad.

Trey checked his word count. Fifty left. “Be right there!” Come on. Come on.

The doorbell rang again just as he finished up, Dodger running back and forth between him and the front door.

“Coming!” He hit save and headed down the hall. “I’m coming.”

“Hey, baby. I was worried something was wrong.” Lucien cupped his cheek.

“No. No, just trying to get my work done and now I have to get dressed really quick.”

“I do believe I could help with that.” Lucien chuckled. “Or I could not help, if you get my drift.”

“I could use help. I’m running late. Reservations are coming up and I’ve already fucked my schedule.”

“You have a schedule for our date?”

Trey heard the door close and Lucien put his hand on one arm, before walking him down the hallway.

“Yes. We have reservations. Tickets to that movie you said you wanted to see.” He hated sitting through movies in the cinema—it was always so overwhelming—but Lucien loved them so.

“Oh, really?” Lucien sounded so pleased.

They turned into the bedroom, where his outfit was supposed to be out on the bed.

“Yep.” He pulled off his T-shirt. “Tell me there are clothes on the bed.”

“There are clothes on the bed. Nice ones. Where are we going?”

“Noir. We’re at the early seating.”

“Is it French?”

Trey shook his head. “It’s a dining in the dark restaurant.” He thought maybe that would make things more fair.

“Oh! Oh, Trey that is so cool!” Lucien actually sounded excited.

He pulled on his shirt, buttoned it and checked his watch. “The taxi will be here in five. How’s my hair?”

“Let me just…” Lucien ran his fingers through it. “That’s better.”

“Thank you.” He grabbed his wallet, put on his shoes. “Ta da.” God, he was tired.

Lucien took his hand and put it on Lucien’s arm again. “Do you remember the address? I’ll put it in the GPS and are we taking Dodger?”

“I am taking Dodger and I called a cab. Did you want to drive?”

“Oh, a cab is fine. I like that you’re taking total charge of the date.”

“I said I would.” The taxi honked just about the time he had Dodger harnessed.

“Are you okay?” Lucien asked.
