Mr. Bennet opened it and began to read aloud so Jane would know what the message said. Mr. MacKay told him briefly what had happened to Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy and confirmed that they had been married for almost five days when he found them. He also told Mr. Bennet not to worry, that his daughter was safe and happy in her new situation.

Jane and Mr. Bennet were both a bit skeptical about Elizabeth's supposed happiness since they both knew her opinion of Mr. Darcy.

"Father, Lizzie had been living with Mr. Darcy on a daily basis for almost a month. Maybe knowing each other better, they may have fallen in love." When Jane saw his father's expression, she added, "Mr. Darcy is a handsome young man, and I know he is also well educated and a good brother," explained Jane optimistically.
