Disorders Associated with Metabolic Syndrome

THE FOLLOWING sections cover some of the common medical disorders patients often complain of after fully developing metabolic syndrome.222

ULCERS

Patients with metabolic syndrome sometimes develop ulcers due to excess production of insulin. The organs may release more insulin than the body can handle, or they may even produce only a minuscule amount of insulin, which they then fail to utilize at all. The unused insulin then finds a way to force other molecules (known as insulin growth factors or IGFs) of the body to attack the walls of the stomach. When these substances meet the fragile walls of the digestive system, they perforate the linings, causing corrosive damage. That destruction then manifests itself as pain, and medical professionals deem the condition to be an ulcer.223

Ulcers can easily harm you, even leading to loss of appetite, as individuals with metabolic syndrome start to detest the taste and smell of food. When ulcers are combined with other diseases, the corrosive damage can intensify, leading you to experience a lot of pain. If detected early, a person can control the condition before it causes other illnesses, but people should take medication only under directions from a qualified medical professional.224
