Regularly refer to your life plan for guidance, and revise it accordingly as things begin to change
Writing yourself a life plan is undoubtedly a fruitless exercise if you don’t follow it up with dedication to implementation. Putting your life plan into practice will help you take back the reins in your own life and redistribute your time in a way that you have full control of.
Slow and steady change is always more effective than expecting instant dramatic results and burning out. Developing and maintaining a consistent exercise routine and healthy diet and sticking to it over the course of a year is a far more effective and maintainable means of losing weight than any six-week fad diet, or super-ab-blaster exercise regime. It is with this example in mind that you should approach your life plan. Playing the slow game will allow you to do yourself a lot of favors in the long run.
The best way to notice the absence of something is to weave it into the fabric of your routine. We all notice when we haven’t brushed our teeth, because we do it every day. You should set aside a repeated, scheduled time to revisit your life plan so that you can consistently monitor your progress and keep yourself on track. Try picking a time each week to go back through it—maybe first thing on a Monday before the working week gets into flow, or at a quiet point in an evening or at the weekend. Once you’re into the habit, you’ll wonder how you ever coped without it. Furthermore, you should feel completely at ease to revise and redraft your plan to keep it relevant as life continues, and consider completely rewriting it every 6 to 12 months to ensure it’s as vital and motivational as possible.
It’s of utmost importance to keep your eyes on the prize and to incorporate your life plan into your routine as an essential anchorage point. By dedicating yourself to this, you’ll realize the full potential of the act of life planning and, ultimately, of your life.
