Chapter Six

“Leave us.” Rykan demands as soon as we are back in my room.

Miriam nods her head towards me and quickly walks out of the room closing the door behind her. I sit down on the edge of my bed. I’m still confused about Assassin. Did I repulse him that much that he didn’t want to do his job anymore? At the festival, when we danced, I thought we had shared a moment. He had seemed to be interested in me. When I woke up in my bed with my nightgown on, the first person I asked about was him. Then he steps away from my touch as if it will kill him. I drop my head in my hands.

“Lilly, are you alright?” Rykan ask, sitting down beside me.

“I’m just way over my head here, Rykan. I don’t know what I’m doing or who I should trust.”

“Trust me, Lilly.” I look at him sideways.

This is the guy that omitted to tell me he was engaged. Rykan must have sensed my train of thought because he starts to laugh.

“Ok, so maybe that wasn’t the right thing to say.”

“No it wasn’t.” I say laughing.

Rykan sobers and pushes a stray hair out of my face.

“Gods, I’ve missed your laugh.”

His touch on my face reminds me of our one wonderful night together. It must have reminded him too, because he says, “I wish that I could go back to that night.” He rubs his thumb against my jaw. “I would have done right by you. I should have got up and left without bringing you into my world.”

“Do you regret our night?” I knew I looked as hurt as I felt. Rykan’s hand stills on my face as his dark brown eyes sought mine.

“I have thought of nothing but you since the moment I met you. Every day, after I left you, I fought with myself to not go back to you. I just wish that my decision to stay did not bring you such pain.”

His hand drops down to the scratches on my knees that are already starting to fade. He runs his finger over the exposed flesh of my knee. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t been with anyone since Rykan or my hormones from the pregnancy, but the minute his warm fingers brush my flesh goose bumps rose over my body. Rykan laughs.

“That’s my beautiful Lilly; you are so sensitive to my touch.”

God he was right. Rykan’s fingers are like little magicians. They work magic on my body. I will never forget how he gave me my first orgasm by his fingers alone. Just the memory of that orgasm sends a rush of heat between my legs. He moves his hands from my leg and unties my robe. I’m sure there is a voice in my head yelling at me to make him stop, but right now all I can think of is how much my body has been lacking this attention. He pushes my robe away from my shoulders and it falls down to the bed.
