Chapter Seven

When we pull into the parking lot of the bar I see a bunch of vehicles in the parking lot. Tom must have opened the bar up. I wasn’t sure if he was going to keep it closed since they found Tory dead only a couple of buildings away from here. I sniff the air and still smell lingering scents from that night. I put my kickstand down and take my helmet off. I get off my bike as Emerik is right behind me, taking my helmet from me and putting it into his truck.

Before, I never really looked at his truck. It’s a huge extended cab Ford King’s Ranch, black on the outside. The interior is that dark tan leather. As I turn to start to walk to the front door, Emerik’s hand lands on the small of my back. I’m not sure if I can handle being back here after last night, it freaked me out. Here goes nothing. I open the door and hear laughter and smell liquor.

Walking in, I see the bar is filled with my friends and family mostly, and some of my new friends. Tom comes over to us and shakes Emerik’s hand and then turns to me. “We wanted to do something for you for your birthday. This is all for you,” he says as he waves to the banners hanging around, they all say ‘Happy Birthday Jes’. I look shocked at everyone around the bar. The women of the coven are here along with their mates, so are Angel, Caleb, Jonathan, along with Chris with Katarina bundled up in her arms. Everitt and Jaz are sitting to the side next to Jaz’s parents and brother. Tobias, Camilla, Alyssa, Theron, and Elvy are sitting at a table close by. Caleb’s twin brother, Chaz, is chatting with a woman I don’t know with Katla standing watch over him.

I also see Grace with her nose in a book surrounded by some of her cousins. They seem to be standing guard over her as she pours over book after book. Jaime the half demon is by the bar with his mate, Tammy, who is part angel or all, not quite sure yet. There are others here who I have seen in the bar before, the water shifters I’ve met since I moved here. And the two men I met last night, Boris and Quint, are by the jukebox. Wait a second, how can I tell what these guys are but not Tom and his gang?

“Hey how were you able to mask what you were from me? I mean I can tell what some people are, but not all. Why is that?” I ask, looking at Tom. He looks away to see who is watching him. When he turns back to me I see his nod.

“We wear a symbol, and while we wear it we are undetectable to other supernatural creatures. It is only found in the Elven realm. My family came up with it, and I’ve used it ever since,” Tom says as he opens his shirt.
