Associated Systemic Symptoms

Some patients will present with constitutional symptoms including weight loss, fevers, and pain. Generalized lymphadenopathy frequently exists early in the disease.

The majority of cases of KS will have extracutaneous involvement, most commonly in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Presenting signs and symptoms of extracutaneous tumors vary depending on the organ systems involved. Gastrointestinal tumors may present with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upper or lower GI bleeding, anemia, bowel obstruction, or malabsorption. Dyspnea, chest pain, and hemoptysis are common symptoms in patients with respiratory tract tumors. While these are the more common signs and symptoms, a wide array of presentations are possible and depend greatly on the location of internal organ tumors.
