Dudjom Rinpoche accepted his karma, while doing whatever he could to work with it. And he did all this without being overly attached to the outcome of his efforts. As it says in the Tao Te Ching: “The master does his/her best and then let's go.” Whatever happens, happens.

Buddhism has longevity and healing empowerments and practices that increase health and prolong life. When he was sixteen, the late great lama Khyentse Rinpoche began a seven-year retreat, living in a cave meditating and studying. Until he became very ill, he was happy living as a monk, but his own teachers worried about his failing health. His guru predicted that he would have a short life unless he took a suitable longevity consort, who was foretold to be a teenage woman living in a valley several days' walk away from Rinpoche's mountain sanctuary. Although he had no interest in marrying, he followed his teachers' instructions, found and married that girl, and eventually lived until his eighties.
