QUICHE

Quiche is not traditionally a Jewish food. In fact, although it is a French cuisine classic, quiche has many Germanic influences. It originated on the border of France and Germany in the Alsace-Lorrain region. The word “quiche” is derived from the German word “kuchen,” which means cake. I gave this delicious “cake” it’s own section because it is an adaptable kosher classic.

The variations I have made over the years make each quiche unique. When I was growing up Bubbie would make a great Jewish meal of lox, eggs, and onions. Zaddie and I couldn’t get enough! When I began cooking professionally, I perfected a recipe for lox and sour cream quiche. Every kosher eater I have ever met loves this quiche, even though it is nontraditional. Check it out. But don’t stop there!

For breakfast, compliment quiche with fruit. At lunch, offer it with a side salad. Serve it at dinner next to any rice and top with nuts. You just can’t go wrong with quiche. All of the quiches in this section will get rave reviews at any time of day!
