Raphael awoke and waited impatiently for the paralysis to pass. When it had he sat up with a groan. Paul was sitting, staring at him with an amused expression on his face.

“Woman trouble?”

“Don’t joke,” Raphael growled.

“Seriously, what are you doing?”

“We need warriors who can move in daylight.”

“If that was your only concern, you’d have asked Gabriel for help.”

Raphael’s hair stood on end and he gritted his teeth. “I don’t think I need him around.”

“One of these days you’re going to have to make peace with him.”

“If we both live that long then someday I will.”

But how do you make peace with someone who did that to you? To someone who saw you as a monster and called you what you were? And how do you make peace with someone who terrifies you still?

Raphael closed his eyes, shuddering as he always did when thoughts of his sire came.
