Ariel was dropped from the conversation as the Rapha shifted their attention to discussing the latest round of illnesses in their various patients. But, while she was out of the dialogue, Keeper knew she wasn't out of the thoughts of the younger elves. As soon as they finished their updates on diagnosis, the others began questioning Basil about his student. The young hopper's answers tended to be short and lacking in detail, but Dill was more than happy to fill in missing information. What he was unsure of he willingly made up. Basil would jump back into the conversation, feeling obligated to clarify the facts before his friend entangled the story so far as to make the truth irretrievable. Dill became exasperated at Basil's interruptions and argued that his explanations were the more interesting. Yes, Basil agreed, but the truth tended to be less confusing.

Thyme said he was willing to listen to both versions. Sage and Rosemary wanted the truth, but with the details, if they please.

Grandma Love sat quietly listening to the debate. At times it struck her that this younger generation seemed to actually enjoy these verbal entanglements. Dill was usually the ringmaster, pulling the others along through a word circus that often left them breathless. Indeed, it seemed to be a game to see who could keep up with all the twist and turns he added to the story line. How much was true, how much was elaborate artistic liberty, and how much was just plain fabrication and lies? And how long would it take before someone who knew the truth would jump in and untangle it for them?

Sage took a deep breath.

"Ok," He instructed. "Try starting over, with the straight story this time."

Basil swallowed and began explaining again, but Dill cut him off with a hand on the shoulder, stood up and cleared his throat for attention. Once all eyes were glued to him, he began with an impromptu Limerick:
