What to do with profits

Looking at it from the perspective of the owner of a small to midsized company, in the beginning, most of your eggs are in that company’s basket. Blood, sweat, tears, and money—you are in it with both feet, making it go. As you become profitable and take profits out of the company for the owners’ benefit, whoever that might be, there are several avenues you have with that available capital. As the business owner, you can do any of the following:

Reinvest that money back into the company, and most people take at least a portion of the profits to do so.

Find alternative investments. For those who take this route, I recommend doing this with the guidance of professionals. Through real estate, for example, you could end up diversifying that income and wealth beyond just the one company that you’re running.

Find ways to diversify the company, such as its products, geographic area, or something that adds value to the brand.
