CryptoCat has a collection of browser apps for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari as well as a Mac client. You will need to install the app in your browser. There are download links on their main page for each of the different browsers.

While the CryptoCat interface won’t be winning any awards for beauty, it is simple and useable.

To access the chat area, you need only enter a “conversation name” and a nickname.

There is no password protection. The other chat parties only need to know the conversation name to access the chat area to converse with you. CryptoCat is simple, but does a great job at what it does.
