Plan in March

Alexander went back to the Vatican, but took another way to access it. He remembered that the Vatican had other places where he could enter. Once he saw some guards entering a back door. When he got there, he tried opening the door, but it was locked. Fortunately, he heard some footsteps and hid behind a column. He saw the camerlengo opening the door and entering the Vatican. Before the door locked, Alexander hurried and entered.

Waiting for the camerlengo to leave, he moved silently and took another way in order to go to the Pope’s chamber. But before he headed there, Lilith passed by him, and with a quick move he yanked her over and covered her mouth. She kicked him, but he turned her before she did something else.

“Alex … how did you—” Lilith began to say, but Alexander interrupted.

“I had some help, but listen, I need yours,” he almost whispered.

“Alex, I can’t.” interrupted Lilith.

“C’mon Lilith, I think I can find the last fallen inside here,” begged Alexander.

“You’re still thinking about the fallen?” she asked with a grimace.

“I have a way to find him,” continued Alexander.

“Alex, please understand that the organization is finished, fatto.”

“Then how can you explain the death of the Pope?”

Lilith stood quiet.

“You think it was me?” said Alexander.

“No, no, it’s just … I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with the organization. I mean you should thank Samael for killing the leader,” Lilith mumbled.

“Thank Samael!” snapped Alexander, incredulous. “Are you serious?”

“Well, it’s the way I see it,” said Lilith firmly.

“I’m asking you for a favor and you turn your back on me? You, of all people, you.”

“Prove to me that there are still caduto in the Vatican?” she challenged.

“I can’t, all right. I can’t prove anything to you, but I have this … feeling,” said Alexander looking at Lilith’s eyes. “Please, I need you.”

Lilith saw Alexander’s gray eyes and sighed. She grabbed him, and giving him a hug, she kissed him passionately. “I don’t believe you,” she hissed.

Alexander held her strongly and kissed her back. “I’ve missed you.”

“I promise this is the last time I’ll do this for you,” she said, leaning on his chest.

“Please,” he hissed, kissing her forehead.

“So, what’s the plan?” she said.

“We have to go back to the files and look for anyone that looks suspicious and works here.”

“I think in the files we only can find the ones that stopped working here, and besides, we haven’t seen anybody suspicious around here,” said Lilith. “Maybe Sam has—”

“Lilith, no,” interrupted Alexander. “This is between you and me.”

“You have to forgive Sam and let him help,” said Lilith.

“Why? He doesn’t believe in anything we do!” countered Alexander.

“Let me talk to him and clear things up. You’ll need his help,” she insisted.

“You are always bringing him between us,” Alexander muttered.

“Why are you so jealous of him? I love you Alexander, and he’s a friend—a partner,” said Lilith softly.

“Hopefully, you’re right,” sighed Alexander, returning a smile.

Lilith helped Alexander pass through the hallways of the Vatican until they reached the Pope’s chamber.
