America Star Books This POD printer, located in Frederick, Maryland, claims they provide books to authors free of charge.

America Star Books, formerly Publish America, claims they have published more than 60,000 books at no cost to authors. They handle formatting, cover design, printing and distribution for U.S., Canadian and foreign authors with books in English, all of which is free.

Books in foreign languages are translated into English for free and then published in the U.S. for free.

They claim they have published more than 4,000 foreign language books at no cost to the authors.

Pricing of the book will be set after formatting is completed but before cover design to ensure current market prices are considered.

How do they do it? Well, the copyright remains with the author but they assume publishing rights. On foreign language books, the author must grant America Star Books the English rights for three years.

They don’t make back any of the cost of producing your book unless it sells. Authors are urged, but not required, to help promote their book.

Royalties are 8% for the first 500 books sold, 12% for the next 1,500 sold, 25% for the next 3,000 sold and 50% after 5,000 are sold.

They say higher royalties are paid by printers that charge hundreds or thousands of dollars to print and sell your book. The royalties paid by America Star Books will be lower, they say, because you don’t need to make those costs back.

ASB Promotions offer marketing and promotion services. They market books in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

America Star Books offers an online bookstore.
