They mutually agree as follows:

RIGHTS GRANTED

1. The Author grants and assigns to the Publisher all rights in the Work during the term of copyright, including renewals and extensions thereof.

a) The Publisher agrees to print, publish and sell the Work in book form in English through the world.

2. The Author grants to the Publisher:

a) The right to make all translations, abridgments, and other versions thereof;

b) The right to print, publish and sell the Work in all languages during the term of copyright.

3. The Publisher shall pay to the Author the sum of [your advance monies] as a non-refundable advance against future royalties. This money shall be paid by check as follows:

a) 50% of the advance upon the signing of this agreement.

b) Remaining 50% of the advance upon final typesetting of the finished manuscript.

4. The Author shall receive royalties of 7.5% of the retail cover price of all copies of the mass market and trade paperback editions of the Work sold and 10% of all copies of the hardbound (cloth) edition of the Work sold, if such hardbound edition is produced.

a) The Author acknowledges that he has been informed by the Publisher that a substantial portion of the sales of the Work may be made to jobbers, chain stores, or others at substantial discounts. When such discounts equal or exceed 56% of the retail cover price of the Work, the Publisher shall pay the Author a royalty of 4% on the paperback editions and 5% on the hard cover of the prevailing percentage described in this clause.

b) On copies sold by the Publisher direct to the consumer through coupon advertising, radio, or television ads and/or direct mail, the Publisher will pay the Author a royalty of 4% of the list price.

c) No royalties shall be paid on:

i) copies furnished free of charge to the author as provided for in clause #5

ii) copies distributed without charge for review or publicity purposes

iii) copies furnished without charge to salesmen or used in trade exhibits to promote the sale of the Work

iv) copies damaged in transit and handling

5. The Author shall receive, without charge, 15 copies of the Work upon its publication

a) The Author shall also have the right to purchase copies for his personal use at 50% off the list price of the Work. For such purchase, payment must accompany the order.

b) Two copies of each edition of the Work issued under license from publisher.

6. The Publisher shall control and have the right to dispose of the following subsidiary rights. All compensation received from the disposition of such rights shall be shared as follows by the Author and the Publisher and the amount to be credited to the Author shall be paid together with the rendition of the next semi-annual statement following receipt thereof:
