One area where hosting traditions differ around the world is the time when one is expected to arrive. In the USA, an invitation for eight p.m. means pretty much just that – arrive at eight p.m. or soon after. Just across the border in Mexico, however, only a fool would show up at eight p.m. with such an invitation – the party would start at ten p.m., eleven p.m., or even later. In Belgium, party invitations sometimes come with a brief timetable about what will happen when – unthinkable in Brazil, for example.
