Yasmin
I approached Dâarcy, feeling clean, well fed, and safe. Ella had access to a large amount of hot water, as she had been keeping water hot to treat the injured men as they came, and there were less injuries than she had feared. She had not seen anyone seriously injured, only minor injuries, so she assumed that if anyone was seriously injured or had been killed, they were still at the keep. I felt guilty that all of this trouble had been caused on my behalf, but then remembered that these men were soldiers, and that fighting was what they had trained to do. Ella had rigged up some screens for privacy, so she and Allira helped me to wash and change, and cleaned my wound. When I left, Ella was helping Allira to change into an old outfit of hers that could be pinned up until it could be altered. I smiled as I saw Joshua and Dâarcy sitting together, with the man I know knew as Liam, and some other men. I hesitated as I approached, and Dâarcy turned as he saw the men looking behind him, leaping up to take my arm to escort me to their circle. When I sat on a blanket, he drew me tightly to him, smiling down before indicating each man.
âYasmin, I think you know Liam, these are his brothers Ian, Stewart, and Donald, and these men are the brothers of Donaldâs wife Eleanor, Duncan and Travis McDonnell. I would like all of you to formally meet my wife, the Lady Yasmin Lescellesâ.
I smiled at each of them, repeating their names softly to myself, hoping that I could remember them all.
âI thank you all for coming to my aid. What happens now?â I turned to Dâarcy in shock, remembering his threats. âYou arenât going to kill everyone, are you Dâarcy? You said everyone had been doomedâ.
Dâarcy smiled at me and pulled me tighter to him.
âIt was just a bluff, Yasmin. I would never kill the innocent. But any man who draws a sword is fair game. I didnât understand why when we entered through the gates that I couldnât see any servants, but Liam found them all hiding, didnât you Liam?â
âYes, it was a surprise, I can tell ye. I searched the main hall, but apart from some bodies in one hallway, it was empty. Then I found the dungeons, and heard some noises down there. I thought it was too loud for rats, so imagine my surprise when I found the household servants there. The cook asked after the little lass, by the way. She sent along some clothes that she said belonged to her. She said ye were taking the lass with ye, is that right?â
âYes. That place was terrible, and I feared for what would happen to Allira when she grew a bit more. I said she would have a place in our household, but I havenât had a chance to talk to Dâarcy yetâ.
âNever you mind, Yasmin. If you think itâs best to get her away, then thatâs what weâll do.
