RESEARCHERS HAVE COMPARED the reactions of women sexually harassed with those who were sexually assaulted and found both differences and similarities. Women who had been sexually harassed during military service had âa heightened feeling of betrayal and disillusionmentâ that continued long after they were discharged. Women who had been sexually assaulted while in the military tended to have higher levels of guilt and shame about their experience than did the women who had been harassed. Both groups of women believed that other people viewed them as âunchasteâ or âbadâ women.3
