Carrie and Clyde R. Franklin built this $25,000 John L. DeLario–designed home at 6171 Rockcliff Place in 1926. According to a December 27, 1925, article in the Los Angeles Times, the house would be steeped in Spanish atmosphere, finished in white and employing tile, ornamental ironwork and stairway, wood-truss ceiling, terraces, patios, balconies, and old padre handmade red tile roof. The first floor would include large living room with fireplace and open wood-truss ceiling, loggia, terrace, entrance hall, breakfast room, kitchen, pass pantry, service porch, and maid’s room, with a separate room below for games or billiards. The second floor would include master suite with bedroom, tile bath, separate shower, dressing room, closets, guest rooms, and bath. A two-car garage and landscaping were included in the cost. Tile and iron work would be employed throughout to add to the “charming effect.”
