CHAPTER 6

Winnie

God, I was going to be in so much trouble I just knew it.

Carter hated it when he thought men were flirting with me, and had let it be known on more than one occasion. I mean, he fucked me six ways from Sunday in a supply closet at the office a week ago just because Logan had been harmlessly flirting with me. I wasn't dumb enough to think he was flirting for real, the guy was a major player, and Carter told me that the two of them went way back. But I still ended up with a ripped blouse and a sore puss when it was all over.

Yeah, hence why I wasn't too thrilled to be headed back to his office right now.

I'd gone down to the restaurant on the building's bottom floor for some lunch. According to Carter I wasn't allowed to leave the building without him, and he'd been tied up in an important meeting so I thought I'd grab us something to eat. Usually I attended his meetings too even though I was just his personal assistant, but his client had wanted to speak with him privately and I was hungry so I'd used it as an opportunity to run downstairs. I'd originally intended to order the food to go, but the place had a nice ambiance and their complimentary bread looked so amazing that I’d decided to dine in and order Carter's food to go so I could bring it back to him. I wasn't sure how long Carter's meeting was going to be and in all honesty I needed a break from the office. Compared to the home office in Carter's penthouse where we usually spent the work days, the corporate headquarters office was loud and stressful — it was giving me a slight headache — being that there were a couple hundred or so people who worked in the office on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong the office space was large and occupied multiple floors and was decorated very nicely. And only the heads of the company occupied the top floor but I guess I'd gotten spoiled having Carter all to myself in a quiet workspace with just the two of us. And after what happened just now, I was silently wishing we'd spent today working from home. I was finishing up my shrimp scampi when some guy with blonde hair and blue eyes dressed in a suit sat down at my table across from me. "Um, can I help you?" I had no idea who he was but I’d assumed he worked in the building in another office. "Hey, I'm Adam." I smiled politely. "Hi, Adam, nice to meet you." He flashed a smile that I was sure had gotten him many a phone number. "Trust me, the pleasure is all mine. I couldn't help but notice that you’re eating all alone. You're so beautiful, your skin reminds me of rich chocolate." Ugh, what a line. I hated
