To serve the needs of midlife and older persons in Omaha a similar joint venture is being pursued.
Second, there is a focus on congregations and corporations. Work and religion are two of our primary institutions, and work-site wellness and spiritual well-being programs, as previously described, are both held at the CCHA and in the community.
Third, as a teaching institution we focus on student training. An internship or clinical rotation at the center provides the student with a unique health emphasis, not to mention an interdisciplinary team approach.
Fourth, we sponsor and organize conferences, holding them both in the shopping mall (seating up to 120 people) and at other sites. The vast majority of mall-based conference participants enjoy the setting and are not distracted by the coming and going of consumers. For conferences in the community we place strong emphasis on collaborating with other agencies, such as the American Association of Retired Persons, the county health department, and the state and area agencies on aging.
Fifth, through the Creighton Regional Geriatric Education Center we provide faculty and professional educational and training programs. Our target groups are physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, occupational therapists, counselors, and social workers in Nebraska and eastern Wyoming.
In short, what sets the CCHA apart from other health services is its multi-faceted support of midlife and older persons through interdisciplinary educational, service, and research programs that affect independence and health, not just the treatment of disease.
