VARIATIONS FOR VIRABHADRASANA I:
1.Place the thigh of your bent leg on a chair seat. Place one hand on the bent thigh; use the other for balance by holding the chair back. As you get more secure, work to raise yourself off the chair. Use your legs, not your arms, to do this. Keep your arms at your sides or raise them.
2.Place a block under the forward leg. This lifts the torso and rocks it backward, encouraging more extension of the lower lumbar spine. Beginning the pose with a wider stance, in which the legs are not in a straight line, enhances the therapeutic effects of this pose.
