LOW STOMACH ACID

Low stomach acid often masquerades as acid reflux after eating. Yes, you read that correctly. It’s a paradox. On the one hand, stomach acid is reaching unprotected areas of the esophagus, causing the burning feelings associated with hyperacidity. However, with low stomach acid, food sits undigested in the stomach longer, which increases the likelihood that pressure inside your abdomen will push the food upward. To make this paradox worse, medications that lower stomach acid production seem to make it better, but they are not correcting the real problem, which is acid reflux.
