REPORT OF THE PUJO COMMITTEE,

FEBRUARY 28, 1913

Many observers felt that the fears of the Progressives about the domination of the country by the “money trust” were justified by the revelations of the Pujo Committee. This subcommittee of the House Committee on Banking and Currency had been authorized by the House in February 1912 to inquire into the concentration of financial resources and financial power in the country. Under the chairmanship of Arsène Pujo of Louisiana, it took much testimony from leading bankers and businessmen, and found in its report, represented in part here, that concentration in finance was increasing. The appearance of this report just on the eve of Wilson’s assumption of office gave strength to his demands for reform.
