Values-Based Organization is Each Individual’s Responsibility

Let us look at the family, a unit we all identify with. The well-being of the family and relationships among the family members are based on values. This means, each individual member of the family shares a conviction in those values and all the members collectively live those values.

Even if one member of the family deviates from the values, we will not feel that way about the entire family. Most, if not all, would have experienced that the family based on values is often a more peaceful and happy family.

When we recognize this in the context of a family consisting of merely a handful of members, what then to speak of the business organization which has so many more members and that too coming from diverse backgrounds!

Why is it important?

The organization has to function as an integrated unit for it to meet its purpose. When we say ‘integrated’, we are referring to the individual members of the organization (i.e., the employees), functioning in harmony, like the cells of the living body. This harmony results when each member of the organization is values based and also understands the purpose of the business and what his/her role is in the overall plan. In integrity of each individual lies the integrity of the organizational entity.

Being values-based is not an option;

it is a responsibility; it has to be a compulsion.
