Sally Jewell is the 51st U.S. Secretary of the Interior. She was appointed by President Barack Obama and took the oath of office in 2013. As Secretary of the Interior she oversees approximately 20 percent of the nation’s lands, including national wildlife refuges and national parks like Gettysburg National Military Park. Prior to her confirmation as Secretary, she served in the private sector, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Recreation Equipment, Inc. (REI). Trained as a petroleum engineer, Jewell began her career with Mobil Oil Corp. An avid outdoorswoman, Jewell has scaled Mount Rainier seven times and climbed Vinson Massif, the highest mountain in Antarctica.
