Head Over Heels into Happiness

Your position is not just a question of comfort, it’s also a matter of how far a hand can penetrate you. A question of millimeters.

“Fisting arrived with the slings,” Knut Koch recalls, actor and author of the magnificent autobiography The Barefoot Prince. Although I have always considered the sling to be the best piece of furniture for fisting, I know lots of people who prefer other positions (if for no other reason than a sling is not always available). Even White and Silverstein, in their enlightening book The Joy of Sex, explain that “some men lie on their backs, with their legs spread in the air, others go on all fours. Maybe the best position is to crouch down and sit down on a vertical forearm—the ‘best’ in the sense of reaching something that seemed impossible beforehand.”

It’s perfectly legitimate to want to make yourself comfortable during sex. This wish is particularly sensible if you’re planning on getting worked over for a longer period of time. But comfort has its disadvantages. I’ve assembled the most common positions here and will do my best to explain the pros and cons of each.
