WHO ARE THE PLAYERS?

Team OB/GYN consists of a senior resident (R3 or R4), at least 1 junior resident (R2), and an intern (from OB/GYN, family practice, psychiatry, emergency medicine, or medicine). There may also be a fourth-year medical student doing his or her senior elective as well as 1 or 2 third-year medical students. Generally there is 1 ward attending, although there may also be several private attendings, subspecialty attendings (maternal-fetal, gynecologic oncology), and fellows. Other important players on the team include the nursing staff and midwives (especially in L&D), who can teach you invaluable obstetric skills, and the anesthesiologists, who are needed for pain control both during labor and postoperatively.
