Can be bilateral (5–10%).

PATHOLOGY

Stage 1: Tumor limited to kidneys and can be removed with an intact capsule.

Stage 2: Grows beyond the kidney but can be completely removed.

Stage 3: Nonhematogenous extension into the abdomen.

Stage 4: Hematogenous metastases.

Stage 5: Bilateral renal metastasis.
