I don’t know about you, but I don’t find that kind of linear list very inspiring. I would rather see everything that I am dealing with spread out in front of me in a non-hierarchical fashion. Using a series grid for your second draft, on the other hand, invites you to think about weaving series together, about how much should be going on in one scene in order to hit the right emotional tone. It helps you to ensure consistency with your various narrative arcs, become aware of any gaping holes, and create complex emotional, psychological, and philosophical effects.

But don’t just take my word for it.
