CHAPTER 16 – BLAKE
Running. That’s precisely what I had been doing. Anything that I could to avoid Mitch, I would do it. I personally assigned him to special projects that kept him busy and away from my makeshift office and classes. But there was only so much avoidance that could occur when two parties were residing in the same resort.
And I was literally running when I ran into him. I had trouble relaxing after dinner, so I had gone for a late evening jog on the beach. I turned a corner, heading back to the resort and bumped right into him. Mitch grabbed me by the upper arms to keep me upright.
I instantly pulled away as if his touch burned my skin.
“Watch where you’re going, please!” I demanded in a hostile voice.
His lips curled slowly into a smile. “It took me a while, and I’m not a slow guy, but I finally figured it out.”
I frowned, as I turned my music off. “What are you talking about?” I asked, trying to control my breathing.
“Why you give me so much hell.”
“Because you’re a jerk, Mitch. You’re rude, obnoxious, you’re selfish, and you’re a womanizer.”
He lifted an eyebrow. “And you figured all that out when? Because you barely talk to me unless you’re snapping at me. So, we’ve not had any real conversations where you can learn who I am. But I’m not worried about that. The real reason you're mean to me is that you’re attracted to me, and you don’t like that. It goes against all these rules and principles you have set for your life.”
“You know jack shit about my life. So, don’t tell me about the rules and principles that I have in place.”
He shrugged with a slight pout of his lips. “I don’t need to. I watch you, and I know women like you. Your life is ordered by these certain principles, and you stay within those rigid guidelines. You don’t allow yourself to open up and live a little because you’re afraid of the chaos that might come if you get the stick out of your ass.”
My eyes widened. I could not believe Mitch was speaking to me the way that he was. “Stick out of my ass?”
“Yes.”
“Look, Mitch. I don’t care what you’re up to and what you do in your free time. As long as you don’t cause me a headache, or create problems for this company, you can do whatever in your spare time,” I said, looking at my watch.
“Like this?” he asked and grabbed the back of my head, and crushed his lips against mine.
Why the hell did this crazy ass man feel so free taking liberties with me like this? Who did he think he was? Just because he was, Victor Black’s son didn’t mean I owed him a damn thing. Those thoughts did not pause the kiss or allow me to break free of the grasp he had on my head.
Instead, once again, I found myself standing there like an idiot, kissing the man back.
