Researchers at Purdue University found that capsaicin, the compound in cayenne pepper, cuts appetite and increases energy. This natural appetite suppressant appears to affect the portion of the brain that controls food motivation and reward, so a taste of it at lunch may keep you from craving candy at three p.m. This spice packs a punch, though, so use it sparingly.
