Trouble was slow in coming. Thirty years in fact.

There were bad harvests in 1640. And that led to bad tempers. So some of the peasants put together a plot. On 23 October 1641 they planned to kill the Protestants in Ireland. Not just the priests or the ones who went to church. Not just the English and Scottish landowners who made them work. ALL of the Protestants.

Dublin escaped the worst – they had a warning that the rebels were about to strike and the Protestants shut themselves in Dublin Castle. Outside thirty years of hatred was boiling over.
