Formalisation of amateur media: UGC rebooted

Formalisation as evidenced in investment in professional productions, both through licensing and original programming, does not mean the exclusion of amateur creativity in content production. As Vonderau (2015) writes:

While current industry discourse often maps the digital world as one marked by linear moves between informal and formal forms of media use, where streaming follows piracy and waste is transformed into gold, it appears rather as a mise-en-abyme where infrastructures are infinitely built into each other, creating anomalies that again become part of a system, and so on, driven by a constant tension between a construction of order and its destruction.
