“That’s great!” Brian accepted her idea with satisfied approval. “You and I can go ahead with the Sword training, and the others can catch up in their own time.”
It was Destiny who shook her head in disagreement. “It cannot just be the two of you,” the angel said. “If we are talking two Knights meeting Devan in spiritual combat, you two would be a worthy first tier. You may, however, not be enough to vanquish the threat. Even two additional Knights may not be enough.”
“I would include Zenith and Fire,” Persia threw in. “They would be a fair second tier, if we’re talking about tiers.”
“If I had to pick,” said Se-Rai, “. . .”
“You do need to pick,” Brian told her.
Se-Rai nodded, giving him a thoughtful look. “Zenith and Fire.”
“A third, anyone?” Persia tried.
“We only have three more Knights Tylor: his brother Connor, and of course Kyn, cousins elected into my small group of Knights,” Se-Rai said. “Unfortunately, Connor is out because of our accident in the Fortress. That leaves Tylor and Kyn for the third tier.”
Brian thought about all of these Knights, figuring their strengths and how they would match up against Devan, and he couldn’t help but to agree that they were all Starlight had for a viable defense. Still, only Zenith, Fire, and Kyn were the ones he would trust to engage in training with the Sword right now. The other two, at least from what he’d seen, would have to fall back, for now. But what if the demon had enabled Devan with a power that could take them all out? They would be rendered useless, having to either die in the battle or be forced to watch the demonic’s plans come together with the destruction of their planet.
That was unacceptable as far as Brian was concerned. He just hoped there was enough time to keep all that from transpiring.
Brian looked at Se-Rai and a silent, understood message passed between them. She turned around and hurried behind the Fortress’s stone gate. “How do we start this training off?” he said, looking to Destiny, and then to Persia.
“Simply enough,” Destiny answered. “Engage your Spirit Focus, and after you have done that concentrate on feeling . . . no, feeling is not going to get you the Sword. You must meditate on the power of God. Realize that power and bringing the concept into reality for this Plane.”
Persia looked at her with a dumbfounded expression, as if she had no idea how to manifest the spiritual weapon. “Yeah, concentrate on that,” she said, glancing down at her feet.
A shook-up Brian steeled himself with his Spirit Focus, the armor flashing out silver from within his spirit. The power, like a bold of lightning blazing down on him, left a deep burnt mark in the sand beneath his feet. The intensive heat erupted like an explosion of lava from inside of him to the outside of his body. Then stepping out in the smoldering heat of a summer afternoon in Texas.
