Chapter 23

I glanced over at Melissa across the tiny car. We were driving her car tonight because I still couldn’t handle the clutch in my Jeep with my ankle. But driving her Mini with my bulky frame made me feel like a giant clown trying to fit into the tiny car at the circus.

We hadn’t really had a chance to say more than a few words to one another since our incredible time together last night. At least I thought it had been incredible. We’d made love several times throughout the night and stayed the whole night wrapped in one another’s arms.

When I’d woken this morning, she’d already left for work. And then tonight, she’d just gotten home from work before we had to rush out the door to head to my parents’ house for dinner.

Now as she sat here quietly looking out the window, I wondered. “Is everything okay?”

She glanced over at me. “Um, yeah.”

She gave me a weak grin that didn’t reach her eyes and set off all the alarms in my head. I whipped her car into an empty parking lot.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, looking around, startled.

My palms were suddenly sweaty. “That’s exactly what I want to know. Did I do something wrong? Do you regret what we did last night?” I couldn’t believe how badly I wanted her to say no to that. It had been the single hottest night of my life. Which was saying a lot given my...history. To think she might feel otherwise killed me.

She reached over and grabbed hold of my hand resting on the gearshift. “No, god, no. I’m sorry. I loved last night. I’m just nervous. This is a little awkward. We’re going to see your parents after everything we did last night. What if Lauren can see that on my face? That I let you do those things to me. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to ever look her in the eye again.” Her cheeks turned red with embarrassment.

“First of all, those things, as you so eloquently put it, were awesome.”

She glanced up at me, her eyes beginning to sparkle again.

“And second, Juliet.” I cupped her face. “My mom loves you. If anything, I need to worry about her neutering me for getting you a little dirty.”

She frowned.

I tipped her chin so she was looking at me again. “One question...do you regret what we did last night?”

“No.” She searched my eyes. “I had no idea sex could be like that...hot and sexy and so...arousing.”

My heart leapt right along with my cock in the tight confines of my jeans. What kind of idiots had she been dating before now? Although, I could thank them for their ineptness because it meant I had this wonderful lady here with me now. I leaned over and kissed her. “It only gets better from here.”

“Better?” Her voice sounded weak. “I think I’m going to have to start taking more vitamins.”

I laughed and put the car in drive, relief sweeping over me. But that would be short-lived if we showed up late.
