As a teacher, be patient, supportive, and encouraging. Remember that it takes time for people to learn and internalize new information. Most people learn by dialoguing or discussing the subject. If someone asks you a lot of questions and comes back to you several times, don’t become impatient. Your impatience will just discourage your employees from asking you questions and getting the answers they need.

Encourage Questions, Give Feedback

If you discourage people from asking questions, they will try to do the job themselves, without your input, in order to please you. And very often they will make mistakes that will cost you a lot more time and money than if you had taken the time to explain the job thoroughly in advance.

In the process of teaching, invite questions, and also give feedback. Tell employees, “If you have any questions, come and see me. If you have any problems, I am at your service.”

Encourage employees to come back to you on a regular basis to ask for advice and insights. If you have any doubt about their ability to do the job, work out a schedule of monitoring and reporting where you sit down to review progress every week, or even every day, if the job is really important.

Teaching people how to do particular jobs is an effective way of multiplying your output. Once you have taken the time to teach a person how to do a new job properly, you can delegate that job and turn to more important tasks.
