CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

TERRELL HUFF

He arrived near the destination, where he believed that Matt Dunn had been dropped off. Pulling a device out of his bag, he aimed it at the house. No infrared heat signature came from inside. There seemed to be a residual signature in the garage. He moved the device and saw where the remaining heat signal emptied into the alley behind the house and disappeared. It seemed odd knowing Dunn needed rest. He needed satellite images. But this had to be off the grid from his paying benefactors. No need for them to realize he had temporarily lost the target. It didn’t matter, he had eyes on Jim Dunn, and Matt would go home to daddy. No way Dunn could hide. He texted his contact.

Need a favor. Satellite images from 0500 to 0700, will send coordinates next.

Now he had time to burn while he waited on info. He wanted to find where the woman and her accomplice went. He needed to see her connection to this. He texted his employee, operating the drone.

Location?

Someone typed back right away, at least this person was doing his job.

South Seattle, near a green belt in a residential neighborhood. They parked the car and entered a covered walkway and tree line, so the drone could not follow to a destination. They are in a nearby community, and I’m sure they will return to the car, watching it. Plates go back to a deceased person. Seems would be a good cover vehicle, presumed the right vehicle to transport Dunn. No ID on the occupants, they carried umbrellas and covered their faces.

Terrell swore. Professionals. But even so, he was better, and they would find that out.

Report when you have eyes on them. Follow and send location.

He would get with his person tailing Jim Dunn. Wherever daddy was, these people would show up, they had moved Matt, so they connected to daddy Dunn too. He would remove them all at once. He liked the massacre idea as it removed the idea that Matt Dunn was a lone target.

Unless, of course, his client got information to him on the gun used to shoot him, which would result in a delightful side job. Whoever shot him would die, and it would be excruciating. He found the side jobs he did satisfying. Sometimes he just killed because he could. He practiced his craft to confuse local police. He kept sharp at what he did, and he found it exhilarating.

Besides, any targets he missed would show up at Matt’s funeral. He would follow them and take them out too. People were too predictable because emotions were the best way to lure people. Grief blinded them from danger.

Next, he texted his tail on Jim Dunn.

Location?

An immediate response.

The train headed south. Unknown destination, to Olympia or farther south, not sure. Might be traveling alone, or others in different cars. No apparent contact. Will advise when he leaves the train.

Hmm. He would go to the location of the woman and her accomplice and locate them.
