On the first allegation, the soldier in question died of malaria while on duty in the DRC and his body had to be exhumed in order to prove that the story was without foundation. That there was mutiny by the Zimbabwe Army in the DRC proved to be a complete fabrication as the soldiers continue to serve with the unquestionable loyalty expected of a disciplined and well trained army.

The coup plot story was without foundation, and yet it cost the country’s image abroad dearly.

Regarding the alleged torture of journalists we wish to state that the Zimbabwe Government does not condone the use of torture. It is for this reason that this matter is being taken up with the courts. The logical thing for the press in general therefore is for it to be patient enough to wait for the law to take its course instead of rushing to unsubstantiated conclusions.
