CONSTRUCTION

Directions are for one pocket panel.

Background

1. Place the fast2fuse in the center of the wrong side of the black fabric. Following the manufacturer’s directions, fuse the fabric to the fast2fuse. Wrap and fuse the 2 long sides of the fabric to the back.

2. Miter the corners, wrap the short sides of the fabric to the back of the fast2fuse, and anchor stitch in the center. I used a 4½″ vertical line of machine straight stitching to anchor the fabric in place for each short side. (The pocket covers the anchor stitches on the front.)

3. Punch 4 holes at the corners, centering them about inside the long edges and about 1 in from the vertical edges. Make the holes larger with the craft knife if needed. Insert and set the grommets. To plan ahead, if you are making several pockets to hang in a column, there is no need for ribbons or grommets at the bottom of the last panel.

Pocket

1. Spritz one side of the Lutradur with the ink color, and allow it to dry.

2. Enlarge the pocket pattern (page 102) 200%, and trace the outline onto the Lutradur. Cut the 2 slits. Put this aside.

3. Center and adhere the netting to the back of the toile rectangle with a gluestick.

4. Center and adhere the organza to the front of the toile rectangle with a gluestick.

5. Stitch the toile unit to the top center area of the Lutradur pocket, on the right side.

6. Use the dimensions given on the pocket pattern as guides to fold the Lutradur along the indicated lines. (Note that the ½″-wide shaded strips on the pattern allow the pocket to protrude from the black background. They provide the depth so that you can fill the pockets.) To fold, first fold wrong sides together along both inner vertical fold lines. Crease with a bone folder. Next, fold right sides together along both outer vertical fold lines. Crease.

7. Fold wrong sides together twice horizontally at the bottom of the pocket at the first and second fold lines. Crease.

8. Referring to the illustration (below), place the pocket upside down on the background with right sides together. Center the bottom of the pocket about 1¼″ up from the bottom of the background. Stitch across the bottom of the pocket.
