We are totally stupid as a species.
So, is there any hope?
Get off the planet, I guess, would be my hope. Seems the only long-term solution.
What do you see within the next five to ten years in your line of work? No one has a crystal ball, but we can analyse trends.
I would say there is currently an extremely interesting war going on between governments and industries, all over the planet. Governments are very much used to having a monopoly on power, but they are unable to protect corporations from cyber security losses, especially cyber security losses that are originated from other governments. Most corporations are now very international, and the more the internet comes into play, the more international they become and the less they want to depend on or allow any one government to control them. I think we’re going to see a lot more government alliances that collectively provide what a single government used to provide, which I guess in Europe would be the EU; but of course the EU and the United States are bound together in more ways than people realize: financially, with security agreements, conjoined laws and societies in arrangements and just simple relations. They are getting more and more joined into one thing, even though ostensibly they are two separate areas. If you look forward I think you’re going to start seeing the flux of power change: governments used to have all the power, but I think they are getting less and less powerful overall, which may or may not be a good thing (because I don’t think corporations are beacons of hope in any way).
Corporations don’t seem to be the most altruistic organizations.
