Licorice Nibs are well known as a Hershey product today, but they (and Twizzlers) were long made by Y&S Candies.

For Americans who preferred their sweets to be closer to their unvarnished source, sugar, Missouri’s Sunline, Inc. delivered. In 1952, Sunline introduced Pixy Stix, paper straws filled with fruit-flavored sugary powder. Originally, Pixy Stix were intended to serve as drink mixes; one would tear open the straw and pour its contents into water. But kids preferred to just eat the powder straight from the straw. Sunline later expanded upon this concept with Lik-M-Aid (later known as Fun Dip), pouches of fruit-flavored powdery sugar that one enjoyed by licking a marshmallow-flavored candy stick and dipping it into the powder.
