I should take her back to the estate and leave. Fight the desires waging war in my body and make it home before the rain starts. But when I look at her, I can’t bring myself to even draw the coin from my pocket.

You don’t deserve her, which is why you can’t have her. So enjoy her now while you can.

A stab of pain echoes across my clenched jaw.

“Hey, stay with me.” Her voice is soft. Alluring. Calming.

“I’m right here.”

She shakes her head, and taps a wet finger on my temple. “No, you're lost in there. I want you with me .”

My brows furrow. “I suppose you’re right. I’m with you now.”

She smiles, reigniting the light in my chest. “Good. Will you take me back to the estate and stay a while?”

Indecision winds through me. A time such as this, with Alexi and nearly all the staff gone, is rare. To not take advantage of it would be an opportunity missed. I want to go; there’s no disputing that fact, but any time I decide against my coin or choose not to use it at all, terrible shit happens.

I smirk at her as I make a show of drawing it out of my pocket. She playfully rolls her eyes. “Lucian, if you don’t come up to my room, I’m taking that coin and flinging it in the lake.”

My hand finds a home at the base of her neck and squeezes. The thump of her quick pulse sends a shot of arousal down my spine, reminding me that while she is satiated, I am not. “And you’d be punished accordingly.”

A flare of desire flashes over her blue irises, and it’s only now I realize how much darker they are. The ice has melted into the deepest shade of ocean blue, while flecks of white act as proof of their once lighter shade.

So they do change when she comes. It’d be a pity not to see it when it happens.
